Protecting Your Oral Health

Posted .

If you have gum disease, you may not even know it since it can be painless in the early stages. However, if it is left untreated, gum disease can result in loose teeth, cavities, and bad breath. Additionally, gum disease can allow bacteria to enter your system, which can cause issues for your respiratory and cardiac system, and create complications for diabetes.

Gum disease is caused by an accumulation of plaque and tartar on your teeth. This will cause your gums to swell and allow plaque to reach below your gumline. This in turn, provides access for bacteria and infection.

Our team can address your gum disease in its early stages with a two-step process called scaling and root planing. First, we will scale your teeth with a dental instrument to remove the plaque and tartar from your teeth, both above and below your gum lines. Then, often during a second visit, we will clean and smooth the roots of your teeth so that they can form a healthy attachment to your jaw.

The symptoms of gum disease include red, bleeding and tender gums. If you have concerns about the health of your gums, we will be happy to see you. If you live in the Orlando, Florida, area and would like to plan your visit to Precision Periodontics & Dental Implants, call 407-378-0877 today!
