Gum recession is commonly associated with gum disease, age or aggressive oral hygiene. It is characterized by the gum line climbing up the surface of the teeth, exposing the root structure of the tooth. With exposed roots, you can experience increased sensitivity, tooth decay and other problems.
In the past, receding gum lines were treated with traditional gum grafts which typically involved cutting gum tissue from the roof of your mouth and use of sutures. With today’s advanced technology, our team at Precision Periodontics & Dental Implants can provide less-invasive and suture-free gum surgery with the Chao Pinhole® surgical technique.
This innovative procedure involves both tools and techniques invented by Dr. John Chao. During your procedure, your periodontist will use a small needle to make a tiny hole, or a pinhole, in your gum tissue. Special instruments are used to loosen the gum tissue, allowing it to slide and expand over the exposed dental roots. Collagen material is used to anchor the re-positioned gum tissue in place. It’s as simple as that!
The Chao Pinhole technique does not require any traditional incisions or sutures, which means there is minimal discomfort both during and after your treatment. When you leave our office, you can feel confident in showing off your smile with a suture-free gum line.
